Island View Cottage is roughly 7 miles north of Rose City and 9 miles south of Mio off M-33 in the Northern Highlands of NE Michigan. The area is excellent for bird watching and is centered in the prime nesting area for Kirtland warblers. Additionally, birders will find a wide variety of woodpeckers, shorebirds, finches, and more. Raptors include majestic bald eagles, osprey, and hawks. Herons, kingfishers and loons frequent the area.
There are miles and miles of ORV trails that are accessible right from our driveway. Close by, Loon Lake and Crater Lake have rainbow trout. The cottage is only a few minutes drive from the world famous Au Sable River. This is one of our nation’s premier trout streams and the Trophy Water stretch in Mio is famous for very large brown trout and rainbows. The Rifle River, another excellent trout stream is only a few minutes drive to the south. A wonderful hiking trail loops through the USFS campground just a short walk from the cottage. |
